Rack and pinion

The rack and pinion transforms types of movement, changing rotation into linear (back and forth) movement and linear movement into rotation. It consists of two sub-parts:

  1. Rack: a line of teeth to which a rod can be connected. This lets the rack and pinion connect to a solenoid, a microswitch, or another rack and pinion.
  2. Pinion: a gear to which a shaft can be connected.
